“But how do you make it sound like we wrote it?”
As a content writer, I am always happy to answer this question.
When a company is looking to hire out their email, social media, blogging or website content, knowing how the contractor will bridge that gap is critical.
My process:
π Take the client through a brand voice questionnaire to understand the proper tone
π Ask a series of questions about their company values, their ideal client, and the problems they solve for that client
π Put myself in the shoes of someone who would hire them: what would make me choose *this* company over another?
π Review content from their competitors for analysis
π Start. All the best information-gathering only takes you so far. Once I start submitting drafts, I eagerly anticipate candid feedback from clients to refine the voice even further.
There’s no shortcut to good copywriting, but the path to demonstrable results doesn’t need to be murky.
What would you add to this list, either as a writer or someone who has hired a writer?
